Luke 10:5-9 "Whenever you go into a house, greet the family right away with the words, 'May there be peace in this house.' If a peaceful person lives there, your greeting will be accepted. But if that's not the case, your greeting will be rejected. Stay with the family that accepts you. Eat and drink whatever they offer you. After all, the worker deserves his pay. Do not move around from one house to another. Whenever you go into a city and the people welcome you, eat whatever they serve you. Heal the sick that are there, and tell the people, 'The kingdom of God is near you!"
In the tenth chapter of St. Luke's Gospel Jesus gives us one of the most important principles in Scripture for one who desires a miracle of healing. Here the LORD is sending HIS twelve disciples out to minister. HE has imparted to them HIS healing power to deliver all who are sick and afflicted. Now, I want to draw careful attention to some things that HE said. They were commanded to announce "peace" upon every home that they came to. Jesus told them that if a "peaceful person" lived in the home then their greeting would be accepted. Many people are not peaceful toward the Gospel. They are not open to the things of GOD. However, those who are peaceful toward the things of GOD will receive both HIS message of peace and HIS messenger. If you are in need of a miracle, my question to you is, 'Are you a person of peace when it comes to the LORD'S message and messengers of healing?'
Unbelief is a bitter enemy. It stands right alongside of unforgiveness as a major hindrance to receiving the blessing of GOD.We read in Mark chapter 6 that Jesus encountered a strong spirit of unbelief in HIS hometown of Nazareth where HE was conducting HIS miracle services. We read that "because of their unbelief, HE couldn’t do any miracles among them except to place HIS hands on a few sick people and heal them. And HE was amazed at their unbelief." Notice that the Scripture says that Jesus couldn't do any "miracles" because of their unbelief. It does say, however that HE laid HIS hands upon a few sick people and healed them. John 6:2 says that "a great multitude followed HIM, because they saw HIS miracles which HE did on them that were diseased." Notice that healing is referred to as "miracles". It appears that Jesus was able to lay HIS hands upon a few sick people and heal them, but HE was unable to perform any mighty miracles of healing while in HIS hometown of Nazareth because of their unbelief. The spirit of unbelief was so strong there that the Bible says that Jesus was actually amazed at their unbelief!
I have seen it. There have been services that I have been involved with where great miracles of healing were taking place. I once saw a handicapped boy instantly delivered by the laying on of hands. In the same service there were testimonies of IBS, arthritis, cancer and deafness healed. On the other hand, I have been involved in services where the only healing was of a migraine headache. I have preached in churches where the spirit of faith was so strong that anything seemed possible. Miracles came easily in such services. In other churches it felt as if I was pulling a heavy weight as I preached. I would have had more success going outside and preaching to a tree! Such people may well be born again, Spirit filled Christians, but they are not "peaceful people" to the things of GOD. If you are in need of healing, you must be receptive to both the LORD'S message of healing and to HIS messengers of healing!
Notice in our text that Jesus said, "Whenever you go into a city AND THE PEOPLE WELCOME YOU...Heal the sick that are there!" The King James Version says that if "they RECEIVE you". Jesus offered HIS followers no authority to heal those who refused to receive them. Notice I didn't say that HE offered no authority for HIS disciples to heal those who refused to receive HIM. Jesus offered HIS authority to heal anyone who received HIS messengers of healing! What do you think of HIS messengers of healing? What is your initial reaction when you hear that a church is holding healing services, or that an evangelist is conducting special miracle services nearby? Do you mock? Do you speak evil against such ministries? If so don't be surprised if you can't seem to get healed in their meeting. You can't say that a certain minister is phony because you weren't healed in their meeting if you had absolutely no respect whatsoever for them, or their message. Don't be ridiculous.
Matthew 10:41 says, "The person who welcomes a prophet as a prophet will receive a prophet's reward. The person who welcomes a righteous person as a righteous person will receive a righteous person's reward." James 5:16 says, "The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results." According to Jesus, if one receives a prophet as a prophet, he will receive what the man of GOD is promising. If one receives a righteous man as such, he will receive what the righteous man is agreeing with him in prayer for. James said that the "prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results." How do you receive GOD'S man? Do you receive a healing evangelist as a minister of healing, or do you receive him as a fraud? Your answer to that question determines what you receive from his ministry. Receive him as a messenger of healing and you will be healed. Receive him as a fraud and you get nothing. Don't fool yourself.
